1-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride is a synthetic compound with industrial applications. It is a sulfonyl derivative of tetrahydroisoquinoline that can be synthesized by the reaction of aniline with ethyl chloroformate in the presence of triethylamine. The compound has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of large-scale sulfonyl compounds and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals. 1-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride can also be used to prepare N-(N'-sulfonylureido)amides and N-(N'-sulfonylsulfonamido)ureas by reacting with amines or ureas respectively.
