Myristyl nicotinate is able to penetrate the skin cells and mitochondria, which may be due to its ability to reduce the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibit energy metabolism. It also has been shown that myristyl nicotinate can cause all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) to diffuse into skin cells, leading to cell differentiation. ATRA is a growth factor that can stimulate cell proliferation and inhibit apoptosis.
