2-(Morpholin-4-ylmethyl)aniline (EMMA) is a drug that inhibits the growth of leukaemia cells by binding to their receptor tyrosine. It blocks the cycle of cell proliferation, triggering apoptosis and inhibiting signalling pathways. EMMA has been shown to be effective in animal models against many types of cancer and has nanomolar potency. EMMA binds to the ATP-binding site on the receptor tyrosine kinase, preventing it from activating other proteins that are involved in cell signalling. This prevents the activation of proteins that stimulate cell proliferation and eosinophilic differentiation, which is important for suppressing leukaemia cell growth. EMMA also targets leukaemia cells at G1 phase by interfering with protein synthesis.
