- 1-Methyl-2-Phenylpiperazine
1-Methyl-2-phenyl-piperazine is a silicon compound that has been used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is a colorless, viscous liquid with a strong smell. 1-Methyl-2-phenyl-piperazine is an antimicrobial agent and has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication. This organosilicon has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties against fungi and viruses. The spectra of this compound consist of methylene groups (CH) which are responsible for its biological activity. The nitrogen containing heterocyclic ring is responsible for its antimicrobial properties.
