7-Methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole is a cholinesterase inhibitor that is used as an antituberculosis drug. It inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which are enzymes that break down acetylcholine in the body. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to increased levels of acetylcholine and may be responsible for its antituberculosis properties. 7-Methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole has been shown to produce a high level of mortality in mice infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
