- 6-Bromo-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester
- 1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, 6-bromo-, methyl ester
Methyl 6-bromo-1H-indole-2-carboxylate (MBIC) is a potent anti-cancer agent that belongs to the class of hydantoins. It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in both lung and breast cancer cell lines. MBIC inhibits the activity of an enzyme called hydantoinase, which is responsible for converting hydantoins into carboxylates. This inhibition leads to cell death by preventing the conversion of hydantoin into carboxylates, which are necessary for the production of proteins vital for cell division. MBIC also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.
