Methotrexate tetraglutamate is an active form of methotrexate, which inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA by inhibiting the production of nucleotides. It also binds to glycosylation sites on proteins, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death. Methotrexate tetraglutamate can be used as an immunosuppressant for autoimmune diseases or as a chemotherapeutic agent for hyperproliferative disorders such as hepatoma.
