2-Methylquinoline-8-carboxylic acid is a chiral, fluorescent compound that belongs to the class of quinoline derivatives. This ligand can be protonated with an acid and is also able to form crystal structures. 2-Methylquinoline-8-carboxylic acid fluoresces when it reacts with certain wavelengths of light, which can be used in x-ray diffraction studies. It has a high molecular weight and can form alkyl or isoprene bonds.
2-methylquinoline-8-carboxylic acid is not active against gram negative bacteria, but it does have antihistamine properties that are useful for treating seasonal allergies.
