3-Methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride is a synthetic compound that is a potent 5-HT7 receptor agonist. It has been shown to stimulate locomotor activity and induce convulsions in mice. 3-Methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride was found to have a high safety profile in preclinical studies and did not show any signs of neurotoxicity. The molecule also has functional effects on the 5-HT7 receptor, including partial agonism, antagonism, and inverse agonism. 3-Methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride binds to the pyrazole ring of the 5-HT7 receptor by ring opening or hydrogen bonding with an amide nitrogen atom in its peptidomimetic form. This binding induces conformational changes in the 5-HT7 receptor that lead to G protein activation and downstream signaling pathways that result in antiproliferative effects.
