6-Methoxy-2-methylbenzothiazole is a fluorinated benzimidazole derivative that exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against a wide range of organisms. It has been shown to be active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. 6-Methoxy-2-methylbenzothiazole inhibits the growth of microorganisms by interfering with their DNA synthesis process. The antimicrobial activity of this compound is mediated via its monooxygenase activity that converts it to an oxidized form.
