3-(2-methoxy-1-naphthyl)propanoic acid is a phenylmagnesium compound that is used to synthesize natural products. The epoxidation of 3-(2-methoxy-1-naphthyl)propanoic acid yields a phytoalexin and the hydrogenolysis of the epoxide yields an acrylate. This compound can be coupled with other molecules to form more complex structures. 3-(2-Methoxy-1-naphthyl)propanoic acid can be used for the synthesis of polymers, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal studies.
