(S)-(-)-1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)ethylamine is a chiral molecule that can be synthesized by an efficient method. This compound is a ligand for the enzyme cytosolic calcium, which is important in the regulation of intracellular calcium levels. It also has been shown to inhibit HIV infection and may have therapeutic potential against AIDS. (S)-(-)-1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)ethylamine can be synthesized with high stereoselectivity, resulting in enantiopure product. This synthesis involves a propargylation reaction between 2-formylphenylboronic acid and quinidine, followed by a subsequent reductive amination with ammonia to form the desired product.
