Methyldiphenylsilane is an organosilicon compound that contains hydrogen chloride, hydroxyl group, alkynyl group, calcium stearate and halides. This material has a molecular weight of 129.2 and a melting point of -162°C. Methyldiphenylsilane is soluble in non-polar solvents such as ether and benzene. The chemical formula for methyldiphenylsilane is CH3SiH2Cl2. Methyldiphenylsilane can be synthesized by the reaction of hydrogen chloride with phenylmagnesium bromide in the presence of calcium stearate or by the reaction of methyl chloride with phenylethylene in the presence of sodium hydroxide. It can also be synthesized by reacting methyltriphenoxyphosphonium chloride with ethylene glycol dimethyl ether and then reacting this product with silica gel.
