(S)-(+)-2-Methylbutyric acid is a monoclonal antibody that has been shown to be effective against Leishmania. Monoclonal antibodies are proteins that bind to and neutralize the antigen, preventing it from causing harm. The high lipid solubility of (S)-(+)-2-Methylbutyric acid allows it to go through cell membranes and attack the parasite. This fatty acid is also found in human serum, where it contributes to the transport of cholesterol and lecithin.
