N-(4-Methoxybenzylidene)aniline is an amido compound. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that can be obtained from the reaction of 4-methoxybenzyl chloride with formamide in the presence of an acid catalyst. The amide group in this compound is susceptible to nucleophilic substitution reactions and can undergo reactions with amines and halides. N-(4-Methoxybenzylidene)aniline has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of peptides and polypeptides. It also has antibacterial properties due to its ability to bind to bacterial cells and inhibit cell growth.
