Descripción:Methyl 2-chlorobenzoate is a synthetic pesticide that is used as an insecticide. It has been shown to have strong neurotoxic effects on insects and mammals, which are due to its ability to bind with the amine group in the central nervous system. Methyl 2-chlorobenzoate is also used as an organic solvent. It reacts with metal ions such as aluminum, zinc, and iron and forms metal chlorides. This reaction can be observed by using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The chemical has been shown to be reactive with aryl chlorides, chloroformate, and methylbenzene. Methyl 2-chlorobenzoate is soluble in water but insoluble in non-polar solvents such as ethers or petroleum ethers.
