It has been used as a substrate for conjugation with sulfur and selenium, yielding solubility data. Conjugates of 4-methylphenoxyacetic acid have been characterized by NMR spectra and chemical structure analysis, which revealed the presence of butyric acid residues. The tissue culture studies showed that the mutant strain was unable to grow in the presence of 4-methylphenoxyacetic acid.
