It binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 3-Methyl-2,4,5-trifluorobenzoic acid has been shown to be bactericidal in vitro against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This drug also has a target enzyme modification activity with the potential to modify enzymes not usually targeted by fluoroquinolones.
