Descripción

Delamanid is a drug used to treat tuberculosis. It is a prodrug that is converted to its active form, pyrazinoic acid, in the body. Delamanid binds to the TB bacterium and inhibits the production of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which can cause anemia. The bound form of delamanid has been detected in biological samples using biochemical tests for TB. It also has shown activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex isolates. Delamanid has been shown to have a low potential for drug interactions with other drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes or by α1-acid glycoprotein. This drug also has been shown to have an acceptable human pharmacokinetic profile and it does not react with analytical methods commonly used in infectious disease diagnosis (e.g., enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay).
