Macranthoidin B (MB) is a triterpenoid saponin that belongs to the group of natural compounds. MB has multiple-reaction monitoring and antimicrobial activities, which may be due to its inhibition of DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. It has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties as well as inhibitory effects on cellular physiology. In addition, MB has been shown to inhibit the production of 5-caffeoylquinic acid in Chinese herb, Lonicera japonica. This compound has been found to be an inhibitor of prostate cancer cells, but not breast cancer cells.
