Descripción:Methyl 7-keto-3a-hydroxy-5b-cholanoate is a cholic acid derivative that has been shown to reduce intestinal cholesterol absorption. It is also used in the treatment of genetic disorders such as familial hypercholesterolemia. Ursodeoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring bile acid, is produced from methyl 7-keto-3a-hydroxy-5b-cholanoate by the action of bacteria in the human colon. This conversion process can be accelerated by adding ursodeoxycholic acid to the diet. Methyl 7-keto-3a-hydroxy-5b-cholanoate has also been shown to increase fecal bile acids and fecal sterols, which are important for maintaining normal bowel function and reducing cholesterol levels in the blood.
