Descripción:Methysergide is a drug that has been used in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia and other neurological disorders. It is an antagonist of glutamate, which inhibits the release of 5-HT (serotonin) and thereby reduces the concentration of this neurotransmitter in the brain. Methysergide has also been shown to inhibit the production of carcinoid syndrome and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Methysergide is related to estradiol benzoate, which is used to treat autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Symptoms may include fever, joint pain, photosensitivity, skin rash, muscle pain, and weight loss. The pharmacological treatment for these symptoms includes methotrexate or corticosteroids.
