• Descripción: 2-Mercapto-6-nitrobenzothiazole is a thione with antibacterial activity. It reacts with the bacterial membrane and forms a hydrophobic layer, which inhibits the transport of ions across the membrane. 2-Mercapto-6-nitrobenzothiazole has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by interfering with protein synthesis. The molecular modeling study revealed that this drug binds to the ribosomal 50S subunit and interacts with two amino acids (valine and leucine) that are important for peptide bond formation. This binding prevents peptide bond formation, which leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell division.
