The stereoselectivity of this compound has been studied for the oxidation of polyhydric alcohols. 1-Methyl-6-oxabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane is a precursor for some purine analogues such as 6-chloropurine riboside and 6-bromopurine riboside, which are used as antiviral agents in the treatment of HIV infection.
