Morpholine-3-carbonitrile is a propargyl carbonitrile that is catalyzed to form an azide and acts as an antimicrobial. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against organisms such as bacteria and fungi, although it is not active against viruses. Morpholine-3-carbonitrile inhibits the synthesis of proteins in these organisms by binding to the ribose ring in the dna molecules. This prevents DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death.
