5-Methyl-1-(2,2,2-Trifluoroethylsulfonyl)Benzimidazole is a benzimidazole derivative that has been shown to decrease the number of neutrophils in the pleural cavity. It inhibits the release of lysosomal enzymes from neutrophils and prevents the release of proinflammatory mediators from mast cells. The drug was given orally and showed antiinflammatory activity in an experiment using a rat arthritis model. 5-Methyl-1-(2,2,2-Trifluoroethylsulfonyl)Benzimidazole inhibits the production of antigen-specific IgE antibody responses by inhibiting platelet activation and degranulation.
