2-(4-Nitrophenoxy)propanoic acid is a reactive, hydrolytic, and biodegradable polyurethane that provides tunable bonding profiles. It can be synthesized from diisocyanates and methylene diols. This chemical has been used to produce polyurethanes with varying levels of biodegradation. The absorbability of this chemical is indicated by its reaction with the polyurethane backbone on exposure to water or body fluids. 2-(4-Nitrophenoxy)propanoic acid has been shown to be degradable in vivo and in vitro.
