6-Nitro-1,3-benzodioxol-5-ol is a fungicide that belongs to the group of dimethoxyphenyl. It has been shown to be effective against a wide variety of pathogenic fungi, such as Phytophthora spp., and is used in the control of insects. 6-Nitro-1,3-benzodioxol-5-ol has also been found to be an effective remedy for bacterial infections caused by gram positive bacteria. This compound can be prepared by dehydrohalogenating nitrobenzenes with potassium carbonate in an amide solvent or potassium chloride in an isopropyl solvent. The insecticidal properties of this compound are due to its ability to inhibit the chitin synthesis pathway in insects.
