2-Naphthyl laurate is a lipid that inhibits the formation of fat by interfering with the enzymatic reaction of pancreatic lipase. This compound has been shown to reduce the levels of serum lipids in rats and humans. 2-Naphthyl laurate also inhibits the bacteria that cause pancreatitis, including strains such as Salmonella enteritidis and Staphylococcus aureus. It has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis in Candida albicans, which may be due to its ability to inhibit acyl chain transfer reactions.
