4-Nitroisoindoline-1,3-dione is a polycarboxylic acid that can be synthesized from 3-nitrophthalic anhydride and hydroxyl group. It has been used as a polymerization initiator for the production of polyurethane in organic solvents such as methanol. 4-Nitroisoindoline-1,3-dione has been shown to have redox potentials of -0.85 V and -0.21 V, which are favorable for the oxidation of nitro groups to nitrosothiols or nitric acid derivatives. This chemical also has antimicrobial properties against bacteria that contain nitro groups in their structures (e.g., tnf-α). The alkylthio group present in 4-nitroisoindoline-1,3-dione may be involved in hydrogen bonding with the carbonyl group on the adjacent carbon atom, which
