Descripción

1-Nonaneboronic acid is a boronic acid that can be used as a cross-linking agent in the synthesis of polymers. It is synthesized by trimerizing 1-bromononane in the presence of metal cations such as copper, zinc, or nickel. The alkynyl group and hydroxyl group in the molecule are involved in this reaction. The metal ion provides thermal energy to drive the reaction forward, and a dehydration reaction is involved to form an acid complex with two molecules of water. This type of bond can be used for bioconjugation reactions where a protein or other biomolecule is coupled to a polymer backbone. 1-Nonaneboronic acid also has optical properties that make it useful for studying light absorption and emission spectra.
