3-Nitro-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile is a white crystalline solid that belongs to the family of pyrazoles. It is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. 3-Nitro-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile has a melting point of 104°C. The compound is stable up to its boiling point at 258°C. 3NPC decomposes explosively at elevated temperatures and can be detonated by percussion or friction. This compound has been shown to have two dimensional diffraction patterns with Bragg reflections between 0.5 and 1 degrees 2θ, which are well defined and sharp. The elemental analysis shows that this compound consists of 71% carbon, 10% hydrogen, 18% nitrogen, and 1% oxygen by weight. The crystal x-ray diffraction shows peaks for potassium (K) at 2θ=28.3°; potassium (K) at 2θ=29.6
