Descripción:Nitromethane is a colorless, volatile liquid that has a strong odor and is highly flammable. It can be found in many industrial processes, such as in the production of nitric acid, synthetic rubber, and explosives. Nitromethane has been used to replace nitrous oxide as an aerosol propellant due to its low ozone-depleting potential. Nitromethane is also used in wastewater treatment as a coagulant for removal of heavy metals from effluent streams. It reacts with metal hydroxides to form metal oxides and ammonia gas. The reaction solution is then heated to release the ammonia gas and decompose the metal oxides into their respective elements. Kinetic energy calculations have shown that this process can be modeled by assuming first-order kinetics with respect to the reactants.
