Neosilyhermin B is a conjugate of the drug silybin and the monoclonal antibody, anti-hapten. It is used for chemotherapeutic treatment of chronic viral hepatitis, cancer, and other diseases. Neosilyhermin B has shown clinical efficacy in the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis by inhibiting hepatic DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase. The mechanism of action may be attributed to its ability to form radical coupling with free radicals or other reactive metabolites generated during detoxification or during radiation therapy. Neosilyhermin B also binds to acetaminophen, which has been shown to be effective against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in animals.
