Nickel diethyldithiocarbamate is a redox-active molecule. It has a redox potential of +0.36 V, which is higher than that of nickel tetracarbonyl (0.12 V). The reaction between nickel diethyldithiocarbamate and copper ion leads to the formation of [Ni(dtc)], a new metal cluster with a diameter of 3.3 Å. Nickel diethyldithiocarbamate has been used in the synthesis of zinc diethyldithiocarbamate and ethylnickel dithiocarbamate, two novel compounds with interesting properties as control agents for chemical reactions.
