Descripción

Nafcillin is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to the penicillin-binding protein, which prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Nafcillin has been shown to have a concentration-time curve that increases linearly in streptococcal pharyngitis infections. The effective concentration is 100 mg/L, but it does not have any effect on infectious diseases caused by gram-negative bacteria. Vancomycin therapy can be used to treat these infections.
