2,6-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid is a synthetic organic compound that belongs to the group of fatty acids. It is produced by oxidation of 2,6-naphthoquinone with sodium carbonate and glycol ester in the presence of an oxidation catalyst. The reaction mechanism appears to involve hydrogen bonding interactions between the hydroxyl groups on the glycol ester and the carboxyl groups on 2,6-naphthoquinone. 2,6-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid has been shown to bind to intracellular targets such as transfer reactions and fatty acid synthesis.
