S-(+)-a-Naphthyl glycidyl ether is a mutagenic chemical that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals. It is an aliphatic epoxide that has been shown to be a potent mutagen and carcinogen, especially when given intraperitoneally to mice. The main metabolites are styrene and glycidol, which are also mutagenic. The mechanism of action is not fully understood but it may involve the formation of reactive oxygen species or DNA adducts.
