1-Nitrohexane is a nitroalkane that is used as an activated solid catalyst in the polymer film process. It is also used in kinetic studies of reaction mechanisms. 1-Nitrohexane has been shown to be an inhibitor molecule for reactions in organic solvents, such as inorganic acid and hydrogen bond. The conformational properties of 1-nitrohexane have been determined by fluorescence technique and analytical methods. This compound has been used as a cationic surfactant for the analysis of proteins.
