Descripción

Norursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a bile acid that is synthesized from cholesterol in the liver. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and is used as a treatment for bowel disease, particularly primary sclerosing cholangitis. UDCA has been shown to be beneficial for patients with metabolic disorders such as hepatic steatosis and metabolic syndrome. This drug also has pharmacokinetic properties that are independent of its function as an anti-inflammatory agent, which may be due to its ability to increase the glomerular filtration rate and improve lipid metabolism.
