3-(3-Nitrophenyl)propanoic acid is a viscosity-increasing agent that belongs to the group of ester compounds. It is commonly used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. The molecule reacts with chloride ions in an aqueous solution to form esters and chlorides, which are soluble in organic solvents. 3-(3-Nitrophenyl)propanoic acid, when dissolved in an organic solvent, can be used as a viscosity-increasing agent. This compound has been shown to have chemotactic effects on neutrophils and macrophages, which may be due to its ability to induce growth factor production by these cells. 3-(3-Nitrophenyl)propanoic acid also inhibits coronary heart disease by reducing the concentration of blood cholesterol and triglycerides.
