N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)hexamethyleneimine is a synthetic molecule that has been used in cancer therapy. This drug binds to the extracellular matrix of tumor cells and inhibits their growth. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human tumor cells in tissue culture and also inhibits the growth of animal tumors when injected into mice. N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)hexamethyleneimine binds to plasma proteins, making it difficult for the body to eliminate this drug from its system. N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)hexamethyleneimine is able to kill bacteria by attacking the sulfhydryl groups on enzymes such as DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are necessary for bacterial cell division. This drug can also cause photophysical reactions with fluorescent dyes, leading to a change in fluorescence lifetime when exposed to acidic environments.br>br>
