3-(2-Naphthyl)-L-alanine (3NA) is a potent antagonist of the protein synthesis that has been shown to stimulate tumor xenografts. It binds to the template molecule of protein synthesis and inhibits the binding of aminoacyl tRNA to ribosomes. 3NA has a high chemical stability, being resistant to degradation by phospholipid membranes, which makes it an excellent diagnostic agent for use in cells with high turnover rates. 3NA also enhances the uptake of radioisotopes into tumor xenografts in rats and mice, making it a potential therapeutic agent for cancer treatment.
