3-(2-Naphthyl)-DL-alanine is a deuterated analog of the natural amino acid alanine. It is an antagonist for the receptor that binds to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). This drug can be used in clinical studies that investigate how GnRH affects the production of sex hormones and how it can be used as a treatment for prostate cancer. 3-(2-Naphthyl)-DL-alanine has been shown to have a high affinity for the GnRH receptor, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.5 nM.
