4'-Nitrobenzo-15-crown 5-Ether (4NOBAE) is a macrocyclic complex that has been used in electrochemical studies. It coordinates to metal ions and undergoes a number of transfer reactions. 4NOBAE can be used as an electron donor for the synthesis of nitro compounds and sulfate esters. 4NOBAE forms stable complexes with metal cations, including Cu2+, Ni2+, Pd2+, Pt2+, Au3+, Ir3+, Ru3+ and Ag+ ions. This compound has been shown to be thermodynamically stable at low concentrations in acetonitrile solution and is soluble in solvents such as water, ethanol, acetonitrile, and dichloromethane.
