This compound can be synthesized by reacting sodium nitrite with copper chloride or sodium salt with trifluoroacetic acid. 2-Nitroaniline is used as a chemical agent in wastewater treatment and has shown antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. 2-Nitroaniline reacts with vancomycin hydrochloride to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond, which stabilizes the molecule. The hydroxyl group also stabilizes the molecule through intermolecular hydrogen bonding.
