gamma-Octalactone is a chemical substance that belongs to the group of fatty acids. It has inhibitory properties and can be used as an active ingredient in fragrances. Gamma-octalactone inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids, which are essential for cell growth, by inhibiting the enzyme acyl-CoA synthetase. The substance also has an inhibitory effect on the production of butyric acid, which is one of the main fatty acids in milk and other dairy products. Gamma-octalactone has been shown to have a potent inducing effect on neutral ph, which may indicate its use as a chemical agent in perfume or soap.
