9-Oxa-2-azaspiro[5.5]undecan-1-one is a synthetic compound that has been synthesized through the intramolecular cyclization of an acid ester with lithium diisopropylamide and carboxylic acid. This reaction yields 9-oxa-2-azaspiro[5.5]undecane, which can be alkylated to yield the final product, 9-Oxa-2-azaspiro[5.5]undecan-1-one. The compound has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo, as well as bacterial biofilm formation on glass slides in vitro. It also exhibits antiinflammatory properties by inhibiting production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2).
