Osajin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of intramolecular hydrogen compounds. It has been shown to have antioxidant properties and inhibit the growth of cancer cells by altering mitochondrial membrane potential in colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines. Osajin also inhibits cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases, which are enzymes that catalyze the breakdown of cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP and cGMP. This inhibition leads to an increase in intracellular levels of cAMP, which may be responsible for its anticancer effects. Osajin has been shown to have a high chemical stability and can be injected into the body without degradation.
