4-(Octyloxy)aniline is a hydroxy compound that belongs to the class of traceless compounds. It is mesomorphic and has optical properties. It can be synthesized by solid-phase synthesis in high yield and purity. 4-(Octyloxy)aniline is soluble in organic solvents and has been used as a nanodot for optical imaging. In addition, it can be used as an azobenzene-based monomer for the synthesis of telechelic polymers, which are chains of molecules with alternating reactive end groups that can be activated or deactivated by light. The size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) technique uses the hydrodynamic volume exclusion principle to separate molecules based on their size. 4-(Octyloxy)aniline has been shown to prevent cryptococcus neoformans from binding to erythrocytes by inhibiting protein synthesis in this type of fungi.
